Proverbs 1-The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; but fools despise wisdom and instruction
God is a loving and gentle God and when we fear Him, it's not the type of fear that involves trembling and terror. No, God is love (1 John 4:8) so when we fear Him, it's the reverence type of fear. Reverence refers to: honor, respect, and adoration. You get what I'm saying? So, when Proverbs 1:7 says, "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; [but] fools despise wisdom and instruction", that should be a clear picture to us that when we fear the Lord, we will have an ear to listen to Him. That's great and here's the caveat: we have to follow what He says and when we follow Him, we are better than fools who despise or reject His wisdom.
Once upon a time I was foolish, because I wanted to follow myself or some other fools or idols I had around me. And guess where that got me? In the gutter. Yet, when I reached up my hand to the Lord, He was with me when no one else was. He was my shield and refuge and continues to be. I thank God for God.
Anyway, I'm thankful and grateful for God's wisdom, love, and guidance over my life. I would be absolutely nowhere and lost without Him.
