“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Those verses come from Luke 10:41/42. Are you a Martha or a Mary? Are you so busy doing things that don't get you anywhere or are you using your time to the best of your ability? Are you distracted by life's many circumstances that come and go or are you spending time with the Lord? One gets great dividends and the other, great losses really. Thankfully though, it's a choice for all of us and it's not too late to tweak some things in our lives if we must. Perhaps we can all take some inventory and consider where we need to make change. And when we do that, we will able to slow down enough to listen and hear what the Lord is saying to us. It's about on-going communication with Him.
Verses 38 and 40 kind of sets the stage of what happened when Jesus said "Martha Martha." Verses 38 and 40 say, "As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
The Lord was saying that Mary has made time for me and I'm going to spend time with her. We all have a choice to make. Of course the Lord will help us, but what are we doing to help ourselves? And what are doing to gain a better relationship with Him? Just a few things for us to ponder. That's all.
